What is Barista FIRE?
Quit the career, keep a gig. A little income makes freedom much closer.
−40%
a side income covering 40% of costs cuts the FIRE number by ~40%
The idea
Barista FIRE (named after part-time coffee-shop jobs with benefits) means leaving full-time work once your investments cover most, but not all, of your costs. A part-time or passion job covers the rest.
Every rupee of reliable income after FIRE removes about 28–33 rupees from the corpus you need.
Example
Costs ₹80K/month
Freelance income ₹30K/month
Corpus must cover ₹50K → FIRE number falls by ~38%
Good fits
- ●Consulting or freelancing in your field
- ●Teaching, coaching, content creation
- ●A small business you'd enjoy running anyway
